چکیده

Background Clinical studies that have measured plaque T2 times were mostly performed ex-vivo using a small number of plaques excised from different arterial locations and imaged at different field strength using a limited number of TEs. The Table shows that T2 measured in the lipidrich necrotic core (LRNC) was consistently shorter than T2 in fibrous tissue or in normal media, which showed similar values. The only two studies of carotid plaques showed a comparable T2 range for LRNC and fibrous tissue regardless of field strength difference.

In-vivo quantitative T2 mapping of carotid arteries in atherosclerotic patients: segmentation and T2 measurement of plaque components

BACKGROUND Atherosclerotic plaques in carotid arteries can be characterized in-vivo by multicontrast cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR), which has been thoroughly validated with histology. However, the non-quantitative nature of multicontrast CMR and the need for extensive post-acquisition interpretation limit the widespread clinical application of in-vivo CMR plaque characterization. Quan...

Classification of human coronary atherosclerotic plaques with T1, T2 and Ultrashort TE MRI

Background The differentiation of atherosclerotic plaque components in the carotid arteries with MRI has been successfully demonstrated. The detection of plaque calcification by MRI, however has been challenging. In addition, few studies have evaluated the ability of MRI to characterize atherosclerotic plaques in human coronary arteries (1). Here we use a combination of T1, T2 and ultrashort TE...

Histological validation of carotid plaque characterization by in-vivo T2 mapping in patients with recent cerebrovascular events: preliminary results

Background Multicontrast CMR is the conventional method for invivo characterization of carotid plaques. However, its non-quantitative nature and the need for extensive postacquisition interpretation limit its clinical application. We have recently proposed using in-vivo quantitative T2 mapping for atherosclerotic plaque characterization [Biasiolli et al. JCMR 2013, 15:69]. T2 maps have the adva...

بررسی یافته های سونوگرافی داپلر عروق کاروتید اکستراکرانیال بیماران مبتلا به سکته مغزی (Anterior circulation) بر اساس محدوده گرفتاری در سی تی اسکن

Background and purpose : Ârterial embolism is one of the most prevalent cause of transient ischemic attack (TÏÂ) and other types of brain ischemias and about 5o% of TÏÂ patiens have vascular stenosis. Therefore the presence of mild atherosclerotic plaques in carotid arteries, as a source of embdlism in causing TÏÂ and other brain strokes are of a great importance. Ïn present study the ...

Classification of human carotid atherosclerotic lesions with in vivo multicontrast magnetic resonance imaging.

BACKGROUND Recent studies demonstrated that in vivo and ex vivo MRI can characterize the components of the carotid atherosclerotic plaque, such as fibrous tissue, lipid/necrotic core, calcium, hemorrhage, and thrombus. The purpose of this study was to determine whether in vivo high-resolution multicontrast MRI could accurately classify human carotid atherosclerotic plaque according to the Ameri...
